Phonics and four course levels
Vocabulary activities connect words with meaning. Phonics activities connect written letters and letter groups with sounds. They address different tasks and can be combined according to the child’s current needs.
↗Phonics and four course levels
Singing the alphabet sequence, naming letters, recognising letter sounds and blending sounds are different tasks. Singing ABC alone does not show that a child has experience with all of them.
↗Phonics and four course levels
Reduce the task to one short word with familiar meaning and sounds. Model how the sounds come together, then invite a shared attempt instead of repeatedly asking for a guess.
↗Phonics and four course levels
The series has four levels with separate apps: Level 1 introduces letters and sounds; Level 2 focuses on vowels; Level 3 on consonants; Level 4 on long vowels and other common sounds.
↗Phonics and four course levels
First distinguish letter names from letter sounds. If your child mainly knows the alphabet song, check Level 1 foundations; if letter sounds are familiar and vowel work is the next task, examine Level 2.
↗Phonics and four course levels
Level 4 covers long vowels and other common sounds. It is a later stage in the four-level programme; finishing it should not be equated with being able to read every book independently.
